Product Description

Our End Opening Ottoman base complete with a 54″ high floor standing headboard. This base is suitable for almost any mattress. We have a large choice of headboard designs to select from.

This ottoman base has a good build quality with beech lined solid wood sides and a beech lined base. The base is slatted on the underside so each half of the ottoman (4’0+ sizes) can take approximately 30-40kg of evenly spread weight. The gas struts are 600n struts and make light work of lifting up the mattress and are strong so the lid doesn’t crash down. Our bases are available in 20 standard fabrics and 20 luxury fabrics. With a wide selection of velvet, suede, crush velvet, wool, plush and linen style fabrics in every colour, we are sure we can find the base for you. We also supply a wide range of matching headboards to compliment our bases. We would advise popping in to store to select your colour, style and headboard.

Prices displayed below are in standard fabrics for base and headboard only. Upgrade to luxury fabrics for £50.

These bases can be used with any mattress, though we would normally recommend buying a mattress and base together,

Why would we recommend these over a bedstead style ottoman base?

Our ottoman bases have a base and a solid top to them, so all your belongings inside are fully protected from dust. Bedsteads have slatted tops, so dust can go through on to your belongings. The solid base also means you can move the base without having to empty it! Many bedstead styles have a sheet in the bottom, so your items are on the bedroom floor!

Our divan ottomans also feature 4 gas struts (4’0+) which stops the lid crashing down. Some bedstead style bases fall with the slightest push and anything or anyone that is in its path will feel the weight of a mattress and base crashing down on them. They may also feature a leg in the middle, meaning there are areas you cannot put things as the leg is required for support. We do not stock these cheaper style ottoman bases. We do stock a collection of UK made ottoman bed frames which are available to view in store and on our website, these do have a slatted base but have a floor inside and the strength and quality is very impressive.

If taken care of, your new bed should provide you with many years of comfortable, supportive sleep. Here is our expert advice on how to get the very best from your new mattress:

Air your mattress

After its removal from the packaging, please leave your mattress uncovered in a well-ventilated room for a few hours to allow any condensation to escape. Air your mattress regularly to allow any naturally absorbed perspiration to evaporate. You will also notice that your new bed has an aroma of ‘newness’ especially with foam products, this is normal and completely harmless. This aroma will fade with time if aired regularly. It is not uncommon for this aroma of newness to last several weeks.  Pulling back the sheets and bed covers will help.

Use a suitable base
If you have purchased only a mattress, do not use it on a base for which it was not designed. The life of a mattress can be severely shortened by use of an old or unsuitable base (for example an old sprung divan base or bed springs). In many cases, could void any guarantee on the new mattress.

Protect your mattress
No mattress is completely colourfast. We recommend that you use a suitable mattress cover to protect the mattress from body moisture or other liquids. Never use your mattress without bed linen. Remember that your guarantee/warranty is void if mattresses are stained.

Getting used to your new bed

Chances are that the springs and upholstery in your old bed were not what they used to be, so your new bed may seem a little strange at first. Please allow time for your body to adjust to your new bed and for the fillings to settle.

Settlement
From the first time you use your new mattress, the area you sleep on will appear lower than the surrounding area. Please do not be concerned, this is known as settlement and is perfectly normal. To ensure even

settlement across the surface of the mattress we recommend that you turn and rotate your mattress regularly.

Do not fold or bend your mattress
When moving the mattress, please do not bend, roll or fold it, as this could distort the structure of the spring unit and void any guarantees on the mattress.

Turning
We recommend that during the first six months of use, your mattress should be turned every two weeks and then monthly thereafter. You should alternate between turning the mattress over and rotating it from top-to-tail to ensure even settlement. Use the handles fitted to the mattress to position it on the divan base. Do not allow the mattress to bang or fall against the side of the divan, as this may damage the spring system. Some assistance may be required.

No turn mattresses
Our ‘No Turn’ mattresses feature modern, robust fillings that reduce the settlement of the mattress and therefore do not need to be turned. These mattresses will usually only have one sleeping side; this will be the side with the label on it. Although it will never need to be turned over, we recommend that you rotate the mattress from top-to-tail regularly, following the instructions above, so that the mattress wears evenly.

Cleaning
Do not use detergent or chemical cleaners as many of these products may damage the fabric or stitching. Dust and fluff can be removed from your bed by using a soft brush every few months or when necessary. Stains and spillages should be soaked up with an absorbent, dry cloth. Do not ‘wet’ the mattress to clean it as this could damage the upholstery.

Divan drawers
The storage in divans have been designed primarily to hold bed linen, clothing and lightweight items. Please do not overload the drawers as excessive weight can cause them to become damaged or distorted, and overfilling them could cause the drawers to jam. For your guidance, the recommended drawer weights are approximately 10-15kg in each drawer. Please ensure the weight in the drawer is evenly spread.
