1992 – Robbie Bright opened Sound Sleep as a mattress manufacturer supplying stores across the UK, including our own local stores after years of retailing beds and mattresses. Our factory was based in Lancashire in the heart of the textile industry. 

1996 – After 4 years in Lancashire and the commute, a purpose built bed factory was built at the Bright family home in Winfarthing at Aloe Farm. Making Sound Sleep Norfolk’s only bed and mattress manufacturer.

2000 – At the age of 16, Robbie’s son Andrew joins the business to help run the factory and develop a retail warehouse on site as local people would come knocking on the door to try and buy direct from the factory. Sound Sleep Bed Warehouse was created. 

2006 – The retail side of the business kept growing and more space was needed. Half of the factory space was used to create a new retail space and products from other manufacturers were brought in to cope with the demand for a more vast range of mattresses and beds.

2012 – With the retail business growing, all manufacturing was moved out to other bed makers who would make our products for us and our whole factory was converted into a retail showroom showcasing over 100 beds from many manufacturers and big brands including Sleepeezee, Sealy and Silentnight. Andrew becomes Managing Director so Robbie can take a step back from daily responsibilities. 

2019 – With our rural location and customers travelling from all over the county to experience Norfolk’s biggest bed display and our 5 star service, it was decided that a new store would be opened in the city of Norwich. 

2021 – Delayed by almost 18 months due to lockdowns, our Sound Sleep Beds Norwich store opened in June. This was then shortened to Beds Norwich. Same business, same delivery team, same family business. Just in Norwich.

2024 – Brand new e-commerce website launches. As one of Norfolk’s most popular retailers, we know our customers are busy and may not have time to visit our stores. So our new website means that they can order one of our great beds and experience our incredible service from the comfort of their home.
